Six-Shooter in a Duck Blind
By Pamela Hamilton • Apr 13th, 2008 • Category: Election 2008Well, it’s official. Barack Obama really is out of touch with small-town America.
Today he launched into a tirade, scolding Hillary for questioning Obama’s choice of words during the now famous Bittergate fundraiser at a United Steelworker’s rally in Steelton, PA.
Obama expressed his disappointment with Hillary in this way:
“She’s running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsmen, how she values the Second Amendment, she’s talking like she’s Annie Oakley! Hillary Clinton’s out there like she’s on the duck blind every Sunday, she’s packin’ a six shooter! C’mon! She knows better. That’s some politics being played by Hillary Clinton. I want to see that picture of her out there in the duck blinds.”
Well, as any duck hunter knows, you would never take a six-shooter into a duck blind. The NRA will have a field day with this one!
Apparently he also is unaware that Annie Oakley is true hero to women all over small town America. This is from PBS.org, the American Experience:
Annie Oakley may not have considered herself a feminist, but she showed the world what a strong woman could accomplish in an era when women were struggling to gain greater equality, including the right to vote.
Again, we see that Barack Obama doesn’t know us. He wants to preside over this great country? He doesn’t realize that some of us see Hillary Clinton as cut from the same cloth as “Little Sure Shot”, Annie Oakley.
Hillary Clinton welcomes the comparison…in fact, she will probably send him a personal thank you note.
“In her life, Annie overcame poverty, mistreatment and physical injury with her determination and strength of character. She played a role in breaking barriers for women with her talent and accomplishments in her sport. She showed great compassion and generosity to orphans, widows and other young women.”
It is also ironic that Oakley lived out several years of her life fighting a libel suit against 55 newspapers that printed a scandalous false story originated by the original “Big Media” guy, William Randolph Hearst in of all places, Chicago.
By all accounts Oakley was persuasive in the courtroom; she dressed conservatively, spoke courteously, and exuded respectability. Hearst tried to undermine her by having a detective go back to Darke County, Ohio, and try to dig up dirt, but he came up empty and was prevented by locals from staying overnight.
She eventually won her battles, and the newspapers were required to file apologies and pay monetary damages.
Sorry Barack, you got your folk heroes mixed up. But you almost hit your mark.

I’m starting to think this Obama guy is a real “quack”!
Obama is being sarcastic when he says “she’s talking like she’s Annie Oakley.” The point he is trying to make here is that Hillary is not a big second amendment proponent, she’s not out in the duck blind every Sunday, and that she is not like Annie Oakley.
Great article. Obama’s betting on his latest reveal blowing over or being whitewashed by the media. But little by little, bit by bit, each puzzle piece reveals more about the man behind the curtain. And it’s downright scary.
He is totally un-electable in the general election and that becomes more and more evident with each passing day. I believe the super delegates are paying attention and starting to realize that Hillary Clinton is the only one who can win the big one for the Democratic Party.
errr, I think Obama’s point is that she THINKS she’s Annie Oakley - not that there would be something bad about being Annie. So your argument suggests that Obama thinks that Annie Oakley is not a heroe of sorts - which goes to sho that you didn’t understand his argument. So I guess the underlying argument of you post is that he is elitist, since you don’t get what he is talking about?

I agree, bringing up Annie Oakley in the same conversation with Hillary just makes a connection with this beloved folk hero in people’s eyes. Well…certain people’s eyes. I doubt it will matter to most guys. The six-shooter in a duck blind comment is another matter!
hahahaha!
the clouds in the sky will open and celestial choirs…. hahahaha
Take that Hillary! your pandering is more than obvious.
Obama is exactly right to point out her fake and insincere pandering on gun issues when she’s on the record as being even more for gun control than many democrats.
Of course you’d never take a six-shooter to a duck blind, and that’s why he said it. she’s fake.
this was a very well planned comeback and believe me, Obama did not create those lines himself a Pennsylvanian who really knows his/her gun stuff did. it will be all over the news tomorrow which is the day that matters.
Hahaha
When you’re reaching this hard, don’t you think that maybe it’s time you reconsider your candidate of choice? There is a comma separating the ideas. Good lord, what a waste of looking up Annie Oakley in wikipedia this was for you. No man makes it past the age of 12 without knowing what a six-shooter is, especially a guy who grew up when Westerns were huge.
Go anhead and insult the author all you want, Obama has lost 20 points this morning and a Rasmussen poll came out this morning saying 50 % of people were offended by his remarks. Time to put down the hopium pipe boys, you candidate is unelectable!
These are not “insults” towards the author. They was a direct statement regarding the author’s CONTENT, which showed a complete lack of comprehension of the what the author was quoting. There is no grey area here - and I’m making no leaps of logic.
The author obviously didn’t understand what she was quoting.
This is what was being commented on.
Saying “insulting the author” is ignoring the whole premise of what comments are for. If someone says something stupid, and publishes it for everyone to see, they should be called out on being stupid.
And, quoting polls means nothing in this instance because no one brought up polls. It’s just an empty deflection. The premise of the entire article is wrong, and that is the point.
Edit: “they was” should read “they were.”
Obama is a joke. The more he tried to recover the more he insulting middle town people. He and his supporters “cling on” to the idea that Obama is always right.
It won’t work this time. No matter how much they try to spin it, the mask was off. And we saw who he really is, an obnoxious ignorant fool.
I wonder when his supporters are gonna stop drinking the kool-aid.
Obama, you don’t use a six-shooter when duck hunting. Another hint as to just how clueless this elitist, marxist, left-wing radical politician is about middle class American traditions and values.
He’s out there shucking and jiving and sitting on tractors but this guy attended private school in Hawaii, Harvard law school, and has led a privileged life by middle class standards.
He hasn’t experienced the average black or white person’s world. Yet, he says he knows what the little people in PA and Indiana and NC are thinking and feeling and that they are bitter, gun toting, fire and brimstone, illegal alien haters that need him to assuage their fears and lead them to the Promised Land.
The “little people” aren’t as thick as you think Barrack and they can see through your phony baloney. You can try and diffuse your “bitter” remarks by attacking Hillary Clinton. By comparing her to Annie Oakley (which by the way is a compliment) and saying your words were misinterpreted. You didn’t mean it ,how you said it, blah, blah, like you have done so many times before.
All these little puzzle pieces of your true beliefs and core are coming together to make a pretty scary picture. A picture that is definitely not what the American people need, and not who they will ever elect as their President.
Barrack Obama- “Mr. Indecisiveness- Mr. Divisiveness” Nope, America don’t need that.
Al and Astonished…
Your comments and interpretation of this article are mere echos of one of the problems with your candidate… You are entitled to look through the lens of your choice, but do not presume too much…
Hey Obamazoids! Help out! We’re all out of Kool-Aid! Can you give us some!
When I read the Annie Oakley statement I took it as a compliment for Hillary. I was so happy to equate Hillary with Annie I let the six shooter in a duck blind pass me by. Thanks for the article, it was great and I’ll be first in line for the T-shirt!
I just wonder, if Obama was (God forbid) elected POTUS how much time he would have to spend explaining his comments to, not only the American people, but to the rest of the world. How many “boneheaded” mistakes would he make? My goodness, this is only the primaries and he’s spending half his time explaining his “boneheaded” statements, a quarter of his time attacking Hillary Clinton and the remainder of his time waiting to see what Hillary Clinton’s positions are on everything from health care to NAFTA before he lets the public know “his” position, which we all know is “Hillary’s” position. Obamamites need to throw out the kool-aid and start drinking coffee, maybe it will help them wake up.
Obama and supporters…What have you been smokin’? Now we have not only Obama trying to put a good spin on his “BITTER PILL” but his supporters like Al and Astonished are trying to explain and re-spin the SPIN! HAHAHAHA Oh, yes, I keep forgetting that Obamaman and his good wife, Michelle, are common folk like all the rest of us uneducated peons. I guess my PhD doesn’t really count for much because I am a Hillary Clinton supporter and I did not go to an Ivy league school to get my degrees. I guess I am just not smart enough to be able to decide who to vote for. Where’s my six shooter, I have got to go out to Tobico Marsh and rustle me up some ducks for dinner. ROFLMAO! Well, gals, I guess we will have to get those Annie Oakley t-shirts printed up! I just want mine with a bullseye painted on a picture of Obama’s a*s!
HOPE BO’s got some CHANGE in his pocket.
He’s gonna need it for his cab ride back to Chicago after Hillary Clinton wins the Democratic nomination and the Presidency.
Jus’me - Good pun on the word Change. Ha ha ha. You know my friend told me that Obama actually boasted that he gave a good speech (with the 8 American flags behind him) about Wright’s comments. What a cocky guy. He thinks he’s got everyone eating out of his hands that he can now do NO WRONG. He is all WRIGHT. I hope the rest of the states in the remaining primaries will bring him down to earth and vote agianst him. If he thinks that his comments about small town mentality were not wrong then why speak in secrecy behind closed doors in the select audience of wealthy elitists? It was only after he was exposed that he was forced to come out in the open about it. Everytime he is faced with a crisis , he turns on Hillary by criticising and mocking her as a Washington insider who takes lobbyist money. He forgets his own wheeling and dealing in Chicago politics aka Rezko. Yeah, the only thing he needs to be worried about now is the loose CHANGE in his pockets.
My my,
Poor Al & Astonished. I shall pray for them to wake up.
Wow! The way you spin BO’s words has made me dizzy. So BO does not know you don’t use a six shooter in a duck blind, big deal! Maybe he has spent more time in better ways? I don’t even read the statement as meaning one uses a six shooter in a duck blind (ever heard of metaphors?) I would also say his statement (as quoted) implies he knows well of Annie Oakley’s fame and good standing, and thinks Hillery can not come close. Personally, I don’t think that anyone who is known for their gun slinging is a good person, but I am just a “dizzy (thanks to your comments) no good worthless male”.
About BO’s “bittergate” (your word, not mine) comments, I for one sure am bitter about the way this country is going. Very bitter. I think Wright IS right. If the government continues the way it is, as it will if you are successful in getting Mclame elected, then he is exactly right. GD!
Don’t get me wrong, I think Hillery would be a fine president. Far better than Mclame. But I disagree with those who are calling BO unelectable. Just not true.
Peace.
